Cedars-Sinai and Redesign Health Collaborate on New Digital Health Initiative

Cedars-Sinai has announced a new initiative aimed at accelerating the development of healthcare innovations that are effective in real-world clinical settings. This initiative will be achieved through a partnership with Redesign Health, which has a proven track record of launching over 60 healthcare companies.

Importance of the Initiative

The collaboration will enable Cedars-Sinai to create an innovation center that leverages its extensive data and clinical resources. This will allow healthcare professionals to identify and address challenges they encounter in their daily work.

Goals of the Digital Innovation Platform
  • Foster a culture of entrepreneurship among Cedars-Sinai staff.
  • Enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Improve coordination among patients, providers, and payers.

The Digital Innovation Platform will recruit experienced founders to lead new healthcare companies. These founders will have access to an integrated data platform being developed by Cedars-Sinai, which utilizes deidentified, secure, and synthetic data that mimics real-world patterns.

Validation of New Solutions

The incubating companies will utilize this data to train AI and other emerging technologies. Cedars-Sinai will serve as the first large-scale customer to validate the precision medicine and patient care tools developed by these startups.

Dr. Peter Slavin, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai, emphasized the unique position of Cedars-Sinai to tackle pressing healthcare issues through this partnership. He stated, “Our focus on translational medicine and our ability to integrate clinical care, research, AI, and strategic industry relationships will benefit our patients.”

Broader Trends in Healthcare Innovation

Many hospitals and health systems have been establishing accelerator programs to foster technology development that enhances healthcare delivery. For instance:

  • Tampa General Hospital launched TGH Ventures, creating a portfolio of healthcare companies.
  • GE HealthCare Technologies partnered with the University of California, San Francisco, to improve hospital operations through advanced imaging and precision oncology.
  • Mount Sinai Health established a center for AI and human health to promote collaboration in healthcare innovation.
Statements from Leadership

Brett Shaheen, founder and CEO of Redesign Health, remarked, “By harnessing Cedars-Sinai’s groundbreaking medical research and clinical insights, we are positioned to develop businesses that address unmet needs and shape the future of healthcare globally.”
