TERN Group Secures $24 Million in Series A Funding for AI Workforce Platform

TERN Group, a clinical AI workforce platform based in the UK, has successfully raised $24 million (£17.7 million) in Series A funding. This investment aims to strengthen its collaborations with NHS trusts and care groups.

Funding Utilization

The newly acquired funds will be utilized for:

  • Expanding operations within the UK.
  • Accelerating the development of its platform, focusing on:
    1. Compliance automation
    2. Workforce planning
    3. System integrations
  • Investing in international talent preparation to enhance long-term retention of healthcare professionals.
Insights from Leadership

Avinav Nigam, founder and CEO of TERN Group, emphasized the urgent need for qualified staff in healthcare settings, stating:

“Every trust we meet tells us the same story: they need qualified staff now, but they cannot risk patient safety or compliance.”

He further explained that TERN Group’s platform aims to provide:

  • Speed without compromise
  • Predictability without cost inflation
  • Sustainability in staffing where locum dependency is no longer viable.

According to Nigam, the goal is to create a chain reaction where timely staff placements lead to improved patient care.

Addressing Workforce Challenges

The NHS currently spends over £10 billion on locum staff, which often fails to address long-term workforce shortages. TERN Group’s platform integrates:

  • Sourcing
  • Credentialing
  • Training
  • Onboarding

This integration aims to streamline the hiring process, align talent supply with clinical demand, and enhance the candidate experience.

Client Base and Market Expansion

TERN Group has established partnerships with over 100 global healthcare clients, including 18 NHS trusts in the UK. The company is also expanding its reach into international markets, currently operating in:

  • Germany
  • UAE
  • KSA
  • Japan
  • USA

More than 650,000 healthcare professionals from 13 countries are registered on the platform.

Comments from Industry Leaders

Mark Hackett, CEO of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, remarked:

“TERN Group is helping us address critical workforce shortages by providing a compliant and predictable pipeline of international doctors.”

Itxaso del Palacio, partner at Notion Capital, noted:

“TERN Group is tackling one of the healthcare industry’s most urgent structural challenges: affordable, reliable, and sustainable recruitment.”

This funding round, led by Notion Capital, brings TERN Group’s total funding to $33 million (£24 million).
