Mayo Clinic Partners with hellocare.ai for AI-Enhanced Virtual Care

Mayo Clinic, located in Florida, is investigating the use of ambient clinical intelligence to foster a more proactive healthcare delivery model. This initiative aims to potentially decrease hospitalizations, lessen the severity of illnesses, and enhance the quality of life for patients.

Importance of the Collaboration

hellocare.ai, based in Clearwater, Florida, specializes in developing tools for ambient documentation, digital whiteboards, patient engagement, and hospital-at-home services. The partnership with Mayo Clinic was announced on Tuesday.

Dr. Kent Thielen, CEO of Mayo Clinic in Florida, stated, “Our mission is to combine world-class care with innovation that anticipates and solves tomorrow’s healthcare challenges.”

Benefits of AI in Healthcare

AI-driven hospital platforms that include features like virtual rounding, admissions, and discharge tools can:

  • Enhance oversight and optimize clinical resources.
  • Improve patient outcomes.
  • Provide patients with 24/7 virtual support.

Thielen emphasized that innovative technology is crucial for the new hospital expansion, creating smarter, more connected care environments that improve experiences for both patients and staff.

Dr. Michael Maniaci, a professor at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, added, “Our recent hospital expansion is more than just adding beds; it’s about reimagining the patient and clinician experience.”

By incorporating advanced technologies like ambient clinical intelligence, Mayo Clinic aims to create a care environment that fosters better connections between patients and clinicians, allowing for more personalized care.

Financial Aspects

In April, hellocare.ai announced it had raised $47 million in funding. Through this partnership, Mayo Clinic has a financial interest in the success of the technology. Any revenue generated will support its not-for-profit mission in patient care, education, and research.

Wider Trends in Healthcare

Healthcare systems are increasingly adopting virtual care technologies to:

  • Modernize patient care and staff experiences.
  • Enhance safety and reduce operational costs.

AI-driven platforms have been shown to improve the deployment of clinical resources, offering greater scheduling flexibility and reducing repetitive administrative tasks that contribute to clinician burnout.

Jong Yeob Kim, a researcher with the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, noted that improving patient experiences is what sets smart hospitals apart from digital ones.

Statements from Leadership

Labinot Bytyqi, founder and CEO of hellocare.ai, remarked, “Collaborating with Mayo Clinic – the number one hospital in the world – on ambient clinical intelligence allows us to push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI, resulting in smarter, safer, and more responsive care at scale.”
