Japan’s medical system is notoriously cautious about psychiatric drugs. Now, a prescription video game is entering the clinical toolkit.
The launch of ENDEAVORRIDE marks Japan’s first insurance-covered digital therapeutic for pediatric ADHD. Developed in the US and licensed by a domestic pharmaceutical giant, the app targets patients aged 6 to 17. It represents a major step for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) in Asia.

The Regulatory Shift

This is not just a new app. It is a regulatory precedent. By granting insurance coverage, regulators are acknowledging that digital interactions can achieve measurable clinical outcomes.
The software uses targeted sensory stimuli and motor challenges to activate the prefrontal cortex. It offers a non-pharmacological option in a market where traditional stimulants face strict prescribing limits.

The Adoption Hurdle
