Northamptonshire’s Shared Care Record Project Expected to Save Over £1 Million

Overview of the Northamptonshire Care Record

The Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has announced that its shared care record program is projected to generate savings exceeding £1 million throughout the project’s duration.

Key Features of the Northamptonshire Care Record
  • Launched in 2023, the system integrates care records for over 800,000 residents in Northamptonshire.
  • Health professionals can access essential patient information instantly, enhancing care delivery.
Statements from Leadership

Matthew Hutton, the digital lead at Northamptonshire ICB, remarked, “We were at the bottom of the digital maturity rankings before 2023. We recognized the need for change and believed it was achievable.”

Financial and Productivity Benefits

The shared care record, developed in collaboration with Graphnet Health, is expected to yield savings through:

  1. Improved access to information
  2. Reduction of duplicated efforts
  3. Enhanced care coordination

Additionally, a recent survey indicated that 60% of users save over half an hour weekly, with some teams reporting savings of up to two hours. This collectively translates to an estimated £1 million in time savings across the system.

Utilizing Analytics for Better Care

Northamptonshire is leveraging its analytics capabilities to:

  • Support preventive measures
  • Reduce avoidable hospital admissions
  • Identify patients who would benefit from remote monitoring and early intervention

Hutton stated, “We can identify individuals at risk of hospitalization within the next year and provide support before they reach a crisis.”

Building Digital Skills

The ICB is also focused on enhancing digital skills among its workforce:

  • Teams can now create and modify dashboards using a user-friendly drag-and-drop analytics model.
  • The workforce has expanded from an initial cohort of 22 staff to over 150 individuals developing data capabilities across partner organizations.
Future Developments

In October, Graphnet and Luscii announced the launch of the Graphnet RM integrated platform, which combines remote monitoring with population health and shared care records.
