Overview
The NHS Race and Health Observatory has introduced a new interactive digital platform aimed at assisting healthcare organizations in addressing health inequalities. The Health Action Resource Platform (HARP), which became available on August 11, 2025, is designed to provide free access to essential data metrics for healthcare providers.
Key Features of HARP
- Consolidates NHS performance data across various health conditions and demographic factors.
- Allows users to search data by multiple metrics, including:
- Condition
- Region
- Ethnicity
- Deprivation
- Helps identify and understand the extent of health disparities.
- Supports the development of local action plans for improvement.
Statements from Officials
Professor Habib Naqvi, Chief Executive at NHS Race and Health Observatory, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating:
βWe are excited to introduce the Health Action Resource Platform as a valuable tool for healthcare providers, researchers, and community organizations. This platform offers insights that can lead to informed actions to address inequalities at both local and national levels.β
He added that the platform is a step towards a more efficient and technologically advanced NHS, aiming to deliver care closer to communities.
Focus Areas
The platform emphasizes chronic ethnic health inequalities, featuring:
- Maternal and neonatal health, particularly for Black, Asian, and mixed ethnicity women.
- Mental health, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and sickle cell disorder, where historical disparities are prevalent.
Data Presentation
All metrics are available at national, regional, and integrated care system levels, with data segmented by ethnicity and deprivation. This approach supports the digital transformation of the NHS, with plans for future expansion to cover additional topics.
Further Insights
Professor Stella Vig, National Clinical Director for Elective Care at NHS England, remarked:
βThe Health Action Resource Platform signifies a pivotal moment in our understanding and approach to health inequalities. By consolidating data and practical tools in one accessible location, HARP empowers healthcare professionals and policymakers to act decisively.β
Last month, concerns were raised by academics from Brunel University of London regarding potential negative impacts on health inequalities due to the NHS App overhaul announced in the governmentβs 10-year health plan.
