Medicus Health EPR System Implemented at Wilmslow Health Centre

Wilmslow Health Centre has successfully implemented the Medicus Health electronic patient record (EPR) system.

Key Highlights:
  • Medicus is the first supplier fully assured under NHSE’s Tech Innovation Framework.
  • The framework ensures compliance with information governance, clinical safety, and data protection.
  • Medicus integrates with NHS infrastructure, including the electronic prescription service and NHS App.

The Medicus Health EPR was recently recognized by NHS England as the first new core IT system introduced in 25 years.

Transition Details:

Wilmslow Health Centre transitioned from its previous GP system to Medicus over a single weekend, officially going live on May 12, 2025.

Feedback from Wilmslow Health Centre:

Dr. Amar Ahmed, GP partner at Wilmslow Health Centre, stated:

“Switching to Medicus has been a significant step for Wilmslow Health Centre. The transition was smooth, and we are already seeing the advantages of a more intuitive and efficient system.”

“As GPs, we require technology that supports our clinical decisions, enhances patient safety, and streamlines our workflow. Medicus has met these needs, and we are proud to be the first practice in the UK to adopt this advanced solution.”

System Features:

The EPR combines essential clinical functionalities with:

  • Integrated communications
  • Online consultations
  • Prescribing and document management

It also incorporates First Databank’s (FDB) Multilex prescribing decision support, which aims to reduce prescribing errors by providing context-specific drug knowledge.

Statements from Medicus Health:

Emile Axelrad, CEO of Medicus, expressed:

“We are thrilled to have launched our solution at Wilmslow Health Centre. The transition from the old system was seamless, and the team is performing excellently.”

“Our collaboration with FDB Multilex is crucial for the success of Medicus, as it provides dosage suggestions and comprehensive drug safety alerts based on patient records.”

Availability and Future Prospects:

Medicus is now accessible to practices nationwide and is already operational in three other early-adopting sites, serving over 42,000 patients, including those at Wilmslow.

More core GP IT systems that comply with the Tech Innovation Framework are expected to be available by April 2026, providing practices with a broader selection.

Medicus Health was among eight suppliers included in the Tech Innovation Framework in November 2022, following its launch in June 2022.
