Overview
The Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) and Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust have officially launched the Access Intelligent Care Platform (AICP).
Key Features of AICP
- Launched in May 2025, the platform aims to enhance access to vital information for frontline teams.
- Integrates data from various clinical systems, including multiple instances of the Access Rio electronic patient record (EPR), into a unified dashboard.
- Provides real-time alerts and identifies key risks and gaps in care.
- Offers a comprehensive view of a patient’s health and care journey across community and mental health services.
Statements from Leadership
Jonathan Davies, Chief Information Officer at Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, emphasized:
โBy adopting this technology, we can see huge potential in improving the breadth and depth of digital clinical information available to community staff at the point of care, strengthening our strategic priorities for digital excellence across Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin. Itโs about making the right information available to the right people, at the right time, and in the right place.โ
Implementation and Future Developments
Both trusts will implement AICP independently, but the platform will facilitate closer digital collaboration by allowing clinicians to access critical information that was previously stored in separate systems. The initial phase will provide:
- Read-only access across systems, enabling clinicians to view essential data points such as medications, assessments, and risks.
Future phases will introduce secure messaging and alerting functionalities to enhance communication and coordination among services.
Broader Goals
The rollout of AICP aligns with the trusts’ objectives in:
- Population health management
- Data quality improvement
- System-wide integration
Partnership Insights
Steve Wightman, General Manager for Access Healthcare, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration:
โWeโre thrilled to be partnering with MPFT and Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust to help realize their digital vision. AICP is designed to eliminate barriers between systems and settings, providing professionals with the insights needed for integrated care.โ
Adoption of Access Rio EPR
The Access Groupโs Rio EPR has been adopted by various organizations, including:
- Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust
- Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust
- Somerset County Council, the first local authority in England to implement an EPR.
